My recent home upgrade in Reading

I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a gathering where we lacked space. I chose to search near Reading Station.

I stumbled upon the site while scrolling and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a price that felt fair for the job.

The journey of organising this renovation was actually quite involved. I spent several days thinking on the configuration of the room before ever picking up the device. My living area has always felt slightly unfinished, and owning a proper zone for drinks felt like the ideal fix to that problem. I recall standing in my hallway staring at a cluttered countertop filled with bottles and realising that everything had to shift. The initial conversation with the staff was extremely simple, which gave me assurance. We talked various aesthetics, from modern sleek looks to more traditional and wooden textures. I was quite impressed by how much information they requested about the measurements and the current decor of my house. It seemed like they truly wanted the finished product to match perfectly with the rest of the property. I provided various angles in the photos I uploaded, ensuring sure every corner was visible. They explained that the bespoke type of the unit meant that accuracy was entirely paramount to avoid any issues throughout the installation. We went forth and forth on potential resources, searching at samples of quartz and different types of wood grain. It is surprising how much consideration goes into selecting the right hardware, like pulls and copyrights, which could completely change the vibe of the whole construction. I needed a place where I could easily prepare drinks for friends without needing to repeatedly dash back to the pantry for ice or tools. The convenience of possessing everything in one place was the primary driver for this investment. We finalised the design after a brief consultation where every one of my concerns regarding wiring and electric sockets were answered. I appreciated that they did not hurry the planning phase, taking the time to ensure that the width of the shelving was enough for my tallest bottles. It seemed like a collaborative effort instead than a simple transaction, which is rare to find these days.

The installation day arrived sooner than expected, and the technician was punctual and ready. He started by laying down protective sheets to make sure my carpet stayed clean. Watching the components being unloaded was interesting, as the standard of the materials was immediately obvious. He meticulously checked the alignment of the walls before attaching the main structure of the bar. I observed as the skeleton gradually gained form, transforming a plain alcove into a practical feature. The degree of skill required in scribing the panels to the uneven walls of my older house was impressive. He mentioned how each piece fitted in to create total strength. We spent a bit of duration choosing on the final position for the built-in fridge, ensuring it was easy to reach but hidden back from main view. The installation of the worktop was the highly rewarding moment of the entire process. Seeing the polished top at last sitting on the cabinets helped the vision come to life. He next fitted the glass bespoke home bar backing, which instantly made the space to look twice the size. The LEDs were connected afterward, and checking them for the initial time was a thrill. The warm glow underneath the shelves showcased the glassware beautifully. I was able to visualise precisely how useful this might be during evening parties. The fitter was very careful, spending the time to wipe down each area and remove any debris made during the cutting. He also showed me how to move the shelves if I later wanted to house bigger pieces. The attention to precision was really great, right down to the sealant beads along the joins. It was obvious that he took great pride in his craft, which is consistently good to witness. We conducted a final inspection of the completed work to make everything was to standard. I noted that one knob was a bit loose, and he fixed it immediately with a quick turn of a tool. This thoroughness was exactly what I was hoping for when I booked the job.

The finished bar looks absolutely amazing and has turned into the main feature of my downstairs. It offers a classy vibe that was previously missing from my reception space. The capacity is huge, allowing me to sort all my spirits, mixers, and fancy glasses in one cohesive place. No more do I have to rummage through cluttered cupboard cabinets to find a bottle opener or a specific type of glass. Everything has its proper place, which renders hosting much much simpler and relaxing. I love the way the materials reflect the sunlight in the afternoons, making a warm atmosphere. My friends have already praised the setup several times, with some even asking for the contact of the company who made it. It truly feels like a custom extra tailored specifically for my lifestyle. The height of the countertop is perfect for standing around with a drink, and the built-in lighting strips offer just the right amount of glow without being too bright. Even when not in operation, it works as a lovely piece of cabinetry that elevates the whole aesthetic of the house. I used some effort placing my bottles on the racks to make a visual display. The mirrored panels truly help in displaying the labels and giving depth to the tight space. It has inspired me to try making new cocktails that I previously felt were too fussy to bother in a normal kitchen. Having the tap close would have been nice, but the area limits resulted in we decided against it to save storage room. This was a deliberate choice we took at the planning phase, and I do not regret it. The additional drawer space for straws and tools is much more useful to me in the long term.

There were a couple of small drawbacks that are fair to noting for a honest view. The lead time for the custom doors was a bit slower than I originally hoped. It lasted about six days from the first deposit to the actual fitting appointment. While this is expected for tailored furniture, it meant a some of waiting on my end. I had hoped to have it finished for a specific birthday, but we missed that deadline by a week. However, the updates from the team about the progress was regular, so I was not kept in the unknowing. I rather wait a bit more for a result that is built to endure than have a rushed job that fails after a few months. The initial price quote was additionally slightly lower than the final bill, mainly because I chose to improve the handles and include more inside lighting midway during the build. These changes were entirely my decision, and the company was very transparent about the additional costs involved. Another minor issue was the volume of packaging remaining after the install. Although the technician cleaned up the work area well, there was a large amount of waste to dispose of in my recycling. It was not a big deal, but something to keep in mind if you possess little waste room. Despite these minor points, the overall journey was vastly positive. The standard of the fit is far better to anything I might have purchased from a shop. It seems sturdy and durable, and I am sure it will handle years of parties. I believe the value it has added to my home well exceeds the initial cost. It has transformed the way I use my living space, rendering it far more inviting. I no longer sense cluttered when people come over.

Reflecting back on the whole project, I am truly happy I went forward with it. The initial idea originated from a trip to a neighbour's place in London, where they had a comparable setup. I saw then how much it improved the movement of the evening. When I returned to Reading, I started looking for local options and discovered that going with a bespoke outfit was the only way to get the exact look I desired. The chance to pick every element, from the colour of the stain to the position of the power outlets, ensured the end product was exactly as I pictured. I even had a tiny secret compartment included for keeping valuable tools like silver spoons. This kind of personalisation is what makes the experience special. It didn't seem like a mass-produced item being forced into a room where it didn't belong. Instead, it feels like it has forever been a segment of the architecture. If you are considering a similar domestic upgrade, my advice would be to remain patient and invest the time on the planning stage. It is far better to alter a sketch than it is to modify a cabinet once it is built. The expertise provided at the start was invaluable in stopping me from making simple errors, such as putting the cooler too near to a radiator. These little details of advice are what you buy for when you hire experienced professionals. I am now looking at different parts of my house to see where further I might install fitted storage. The outcome of this bar job has given me the drive to tackle a bigger task in the kitchen next season. It has been a wonderful upgrade to my life, and I look ahead to many seasons of using it with family and friends. Finding the proper mix between looks and function was the goal, and I feel we reached it completely. The journey from a cluttered corner to a stylish hosting point was truly deserving the time and money spent. I today have a space that I am truly proud to show with to visitors. Reading has many great places to go for a drink, but truthfully, I now prefer staying at home and using my own personal setup. It offers the identical feel without the noise or the travel. That itself was deserving the entire project. I am so pleased with how the ambience functions in the night, providing a chill space to unwind after a long shift at work. It is the little treats like this that make home life much rewarding and enjoyable. I really value the craft that went into the final product. The way the doors shut with a silent click tells plenty about the construction level. No detail was overlooked, and the final look is precisely what I hoped it would be when I originally began this process. It is a credit to the talent of the team and the standard of the components utilised. I am a very satisfied customer.
